Instructional Design and eLearning Trends

In 2018, Bryan Jones from eLearning Art wrote an article about top trends in eLearning based on interview responses from 57 experts. In 2019, Danielle Hart from Sweetrush published an article about top trends in instructional design. The following slideshow lists 24 trends mentioned in these these two articles (in no specific order).

Trends and Issues Podcast

Abbie Brown and Tim Green host the Trends and Issues Podcast, where they discuss trends in instructional design, educational technology, and learning sciences. They also gather relevant news stories about trends in the field and share them on their Flipboard magazine.

Trends in Instructional Design and Technology Database

A team of professors and other industry experts from Florida State University, Olivet University, the University of West Georgia, and Pearson maintain the Trends in Instructional Design and Technology Database.
According to the database's website, the purpose of the database is "to provide quantitative data about various trends in the field, so as to provide users with some empirical evidence about these trends, particularly with regard to: (a) the extent to which trends are actually being employed in various setting (K–12, higher education, and business and industry) and (b) the attitudes expressed by various groups about the benefits and challenges of the various trends."
